About The Game

Norman’s Quest For Hoomanity is a 2D side-scrolling platform game for the #TeamHooman community.

In a 16-bit retro style, players control the unlikely hero Norman as he saves his friends and fights larger-than-life characters inspired by Felicia and Ryon Day!

Who Made It, And Why?

The game was developed by Jon West, an artist and designer from Chicago, Illinois. It was created to help raise money for charity.

How Long Did It Take To Make?

The concept and initial work on the game started early in 2016. It was being made, off and on, over the course of a couple years until it was finished in the fall of 2018. Actual time developing the game took around 6-8 months. The game was released after Felicia and Ryon Day streamed it on Twitch in April of 2019.

How Was It Created?

The game was built as a browser game, using HTML5 and various web technologies. Majority of the sprites and sound effects were custom made. Music and certain assets like tilesets were commissioned or licensed.

Any Advice For Other Creators?

Follow through! There are so many creative projects that never see the light of day, from an unfinished painting in an attic, a piece of music tucked away in a piano bench, a story in a notebook to some code for a video game sitting in a folder on a computer.

Don’t fear what others think about your work. There will always be people critiquing what you put out into the world. So, don’t let that stop you! What you create will influence and inspire others in how they make things, and it can help you grow as a creator as well. While not everyone will love your stuff, everyone will benefit.

Don’t let creativity collect dust.
